Scam artists preying on Victoria, Esquimalt seniors: VicPD

Door-to-door scammers confronted by Esquimalt woman before fleeing scene

Two door-to-door home renovation scam artists are manipulating seniors and disabled residents in Victoria and Esquimalt, says the Victoria Police Department.

In one incident, an Esquimalt woman arrived home to find the two men tearing apart her roof. When she confronted them, the men told the woman her disabled son had authorized the work.

"When she confronted the men, they became aggressive and denied responsibility for the damage," said Bowen Osoko, VicPD spokesman.

The two men fled the scene after damaging the woman’s roof, he said.

“These individuals … are targeting our most vulnerable,” said VicPD Const. Olivia Nielsen. “I’m hoping that others who have had similar interactions will get in touch with me – especially if they’ve been in contact with these two men.”
