The University of Victoria is a leader among Canadian post-secondary institutions when it comes to climate impact and sustainability research, according to a new ranking released on June 12.
On Wednesday, the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking listed UVic as third in Canada, and 13th worldwide for its work toward implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
"UVic researchers develop and share innovative strategies and solutions that support healthy, sustainable communities, and address global crises and our evolving world. We’re proud to be recognized again this year for our climate leadership, which includes developing integrated mitigation, adaptation and policy solutions with our partners around the world," noted UVic vice-president of research and innovation Lisa Kalynchuk in a news release.
The university was also ranked fourth in the world for supporting sustainable cities and communities, and fifth globally for climate action.
The Times Higher Education rankings have been ongoing since 2004, and their goal is to assess university performance on the global stage, and to provide a resource for people to understand the different missions and successes of higher education institutions.
