Two pedestrians were struck by a pick-up truck as they had the right of way in a marked crosswalk in Colwood on June 12.

A pickup truck hit two pedestrians who had the right of way in a Colwood crosswalk on Wednesday evening (June 12).

The collision occurred at the intersection of Latoria Boulevard and Ryder Hesjedal Way shortly before 6:30 p.m.

The two 19-year-old pedestrians who were hit by the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital to receive care.

Police determined the pedestrians were in the crosswalk when they were hit by a Nissan Frontier pickup truck. The truck's driver stopped at the intersection for a red light before turning left as it turned green. While making that turn, the vehicle collided with the two pedestrians as they had the right of way in the crosswalk, West Shore RCMP said.

After staying at the scene, the driver told police they didn't see the people in the crosswalk. Police say speed and impairment were not factors in the incident.

The 26-year-old driver was issued a ticket for failing to yield to pedestrians.
